A gentleman recently sent me an image of a picture that he found in a Belgian photo album. It was taken in Geneva, Switzerland. He estimates that it was taken about 1865. Someone wrote on the back: “Rosa Steedman Amerique”.
My guess is that this is Rosa McKean Steedman, daughter of Adm. Charles Steedman, born 1844 in Philadelphia and died 1903 in Boston. Admiral Steedman’s biography documents that after the Civil War, he did go to Europe so it is quite possible that his family accompanied him.
I have no other Rose/Rosa Steedman in my records from America and from this time frame. Anybody have a different suggestion?
